Astonishing to think that the Apollo 1 fire on the launch pad that killed three US astronauts - Ed White (36), Gus Grissom (40), and Roger Chaffee (31) - was 50 years ago today.
I'm glad to have been too young to remember that tragedy. My first Apollo memory is the launch of Apollo 7 in October 1968.
Just spotted an error on that BBC video, saying that the Apollo 11 moon landing was 18 months after the Apollo 1 fire - an error that doesn't, however, affect how moving the video is.
