That's an amazing image of a solar system being created! Like the guy in the video said, when he first saw it he thought it was a simulation. Just amazing.

Wow. Now we detect see planets forming on other stars, not just finding planets.

I am puzzled with the physics of it all though. I see a whole disk of planetary dust with ring gaps. The planets create those ring gaps which means the planets would be orbiting faster than the dust disk but how did that happen? WHy are they assuming planets created the gaps? On Saturn rings, there are gaps but they weren't caused by moons...or were they? Or can I not make apply similar principle between a planet's rings and HL Tau's?

Then there is the whole planetary formation itself, The image does not correlate with the existing theory of how our solar system formed. Ie we started with a cloud of gas and dust by which a star forms as the inner cloud material are pulled by gravity, as the sun forms it blows away the lighter material to the outer regions leaving the heavier material in the inner region to clump together forming our rocky planets and the outer region forming the gas giants.

The image doesn't reflect this because I dont see that the young star has blown the lighter materials to the outer rings. Instead,I see a densely packed inner region of cloud and dust. Am I misinterpreting the image? Or could the image possibly re-assess our solar system's formation?

But anyway, hooray for ALMA, what an exciting future for this great telescope array and what a great discovery already!
