Yes, interesting stuff... though it would have been much bigger news had the opposite case been proven.
Have to say, had I not read the article, I would have assumed that this was how galaxies "die" in any case. I've obviously missed the theories about sudden removals of gas, but am intrigued as to what mechanism had been proposed for this to take place. The "strangulation" theory seems much more logical than a sudden outflow or stripping of gas.
