Even though it rained just an hour ago but the weather forecast still looks pretty good for stargazing from 7pm to at least midnight. Is it really cancelled? I was so hoping to see you guys tonight

Souls33k3r, there was an email sent yesterday that said: "However at the moment, although generally clear, wind gusts are forecast thanks to the impending visit of storm Abigail, which may make observing impractical."

Don't want those 'scopes toppling over, I guess!

Am I right in thinking you got a text alert?

Edit: I'm not involved in the observing so I'm not speaking with authority on this, just sharing what I know.

Interesting weather app. What's it called?

I guess the wind must be the issue, souls33k3r. It's pretty exposed out on the 'heath. I know it always pains the Blackheath gang to have to cancel - especially if there's a chance of clear skies.

It's accuweather website (not the iphone/adroid app) and then click on the "+" to add "Astronomy". I use it all the time to find out what day/time would be the best for me to take the scope out.

Just had a quick look outside and wind is not more than usual.

Guess i'm the only one apart from the regular members who really wants this even to still go ahead.

You reckon someone might change the decision on this one?

Yes, it's cancelled. We can't observe with winds speeds as high as this... everything we try to view will be shaking around all over the place. It's just not practical.
