An event that may be of interest to Flamsteed members.... on Thursday 10 July at 6.30pm, museum members can attend the opening of the "Ships, Clocks and Stars: the Quest for Longitude" exhibition at the National Maritime Museum.
Apparently, Captain Dan Brandenstein, former Chief Astronaut, NASA, and Commander of the maiden voyage of the Space Shuttle Endeavour, will be in attendance.
This exhibition marks the tercentenary of the Longitude Act of 1714; it explores how the greatest minds on earth solved the world’s biggest challenge and celebrate characters such as John Harrison and Nevil Maskelyne.
If you are a museum member, you can reserve tickets for the opening event here... otherwise the exhibition is open until January.
RMG has a session next week entitled Behind the Scenes of 'Ships, Clocks & Stars': Telescopes.
"Get up-close and personal with some of the Museum’s collection and find out how two pieces of glass changed our view of the universe. With Louise Devoy, Curator of Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Tickets for this event include entrance to Ships, Clocks & Stars: The Quest for Longitude."
12 August, 2pm-3pm, £10 for RMG members.
