Elon Musk's starlink express
my personal thought is …….
I hate them
don't get me wrong at the moment there a novelity but when they get 12,000 + up there I think it will spoil a millenia of space gazing
so your thoughts ?
Agreed. They're going to cause untold damage to amateur astronomy and will also make ground-based professional astronomy more difficult.
I think we need to know more about exactly what it is they're going to be used for. Low-latency broadband sounds great, especially for those parts of the world where landline or mobile data struggles to reach.
The other issue is the 'Internet of Things' and from that the need to track countless millions of, er, things.
But is Starlink the best way to achieve that?
How future-proof is it? Will all those satellites be redundant within not very many years, but still remaining an eyesore in orbit?
Are competitors likely to muscle in, exacerbating the situation even more?
Above all, what can be done to regulate space - and access to it?
