Astronomers at the University of Edinburgh have found a sunless world that is permanently covered in cloud.
If they're looking for a name for this exoplanet, perhaps they could call it 'Edinburgh'.
Seriously, though, it appears to be Jupiter-sized and with an atmosphere 'in excess of' 800 degrees C, which contains molten iron. Ignoring the fact that 'Iron rain' sounds like a heavy metal band, it's worth noting that Mr Wiki says the melting point of iron is 1,538 degrees C (but I leave it to others to comment in an informed way as to whether the melting point of iron on this planet would be higher or lower than that).
Planet PSO J318.5-22 is 75 light years away and the fact that it hasn't got a dazzling parent star has made it possible to learn more about its atmosphere. But perhaps most amazingly, the planet seems to be just 20 million years old.
'Edinburgh New Town', then...
That's it I am forming a band called Iron Rain.
