Went to see The Revenant last Friday. I don't normally watch extremely violent and bloody films, nor are they usually the sort of thing that one would pass comment on in this forum. However, maybe I was reading too much into it but I was sure that in the film they were marking the passage of time - ie, every day or so - by showing the changing phases of the Moon. I can't recall ever seeing a film - of any genre - that's done that.

Good acting on diCaprio's part - but oh, my God, it was violent and bloody.

I saw that film too, Andy but gosh I never noticed that, I wish I did!  Well observed and adds another reason for the film technical bravura.  I dont recall such passage of times depicted that way either.  As for the film, it was good but somewhat over-hyped.  It was pretty gruesome indeed but I guess was a necessity to reflect the film's very harsh tone and realism.  Well done for enduring that! I did squint my eyes to blur at least a couple of gruesome moments too!  I was enjoying the bad guy (Tom Hardy) more than the good guys tbh.  I tend to enjoy bad guys more than good guys in  most movies which begs some worrying questions about my psyche!

I was silently cheering for the bear.
