Oh, just two? Well, I suppose the series title fits that structure neatly enough!

Second episode of Al-Khalili's two parter was not quite as good as the first part but what I like is that he brings the labs and experiments to us, in fact recreates, historical breakthroughs.  I like that.  He compromises giving us this type of presentation by skimping on the stories of the cosmological discoveries.   Overall, this two parter feels like a taster introduction.  In fact, he ends each episode with an advert to study with Open university but that's fine, good exposure.

Perhaps it paled for me due to the coincidental broadcast of a brand new Horizon episode covering part of the same subject which was absolutely fascinating and once again supreme in its progressive and investigative presentation.  This new episode is called The Mystery of Dark Energy.

I am most looking forward to a particular launch in 2020 and perhaps potentially conclusive results from that launch within perhaps only a year or two from then.

Going back to Khalili's program though, one thing puzzled me and was new to me.  Khalili says that Dark energy started from 6 billion years ago.  He never explained why.  He just said it out of the blue.  Why the heck is that?  How can dark energy have just sprung out at such at a late point in the universe's lifetime?  Did cosmologist calculate that the expansion accelerated only from that point on, how? Hmmm.

Ok another brand new Horizon epsiode that was shown only a week ago was Operation Green Glow: The Quest for Gravitational Control

This was a really fascinating episode that titillated my wonder and desire for our brightest scientists/inventors/engineers to turn science fiction into reality.  Its another superb Horizon that will have you pondering either way on the future possibilities.   I watch and read way way too much sci fi to be swayed towards rationality I'm afraid.  So I am ready to pre order my customised colour anti gravity boots as soon as its invented.
