We have now set some placeholder dates for the Flamsteed History of Astronomy Group meetings for the 2014/15 season.
It may not be possible to run meetings on all of these dates, as it depends on who we can persuade to give us a talk on these evenings! However, all being well, we are looking at the following dates (all events run from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday evenings at the Royal Observatory Greenwich):
Tuesday 30 September 2014
Tuesday 25 November
Tuesday 27 January 2015
Tuesday 24 February
Tuesday 24 March
Tuesday 28 April
See this link for further updates to the programme.
Details of the first "History of Astronomy" group talks have now been announced.
The first meeting is on Tuesday 30 September from 7pm at the Royal Observatory Greenwich.
“Longitude and the Victorian Internet” – in this 300th anniversary year of the Longitude Prize, our very own Flamsteed member Bill Connor will be talking about the development of the international telegraph network, the ‘Victorian Internet’, and how it became a powerful tool for surveyors and navigation in the precise determination of longitude.
If you are interested in attending this meeting, please let me know (Flamsteed members only).
