Those that attended our September lecture may recall that our guest speaker, Steve Fossey, mentioned that John Flamsteed had made a probable supernova discovery in Cassiopeia.

It has never been proven and so to this day, whether or not Flamsteed had made this discovery remains a mystery.

Fuelling a potential desire for Flamsteed members to unravel this mystery, Steve has kindly sent through a link to an article on Flamsteed's observation of 3 Cas (possible Cas A SN) for us to read:

A Probable Flamsteed Observations of the Cassiopeia-A Supernova

Steve noted, "I don't know if this is the last word on the subject (it was way back in 1980), but in case it is of interest to you ... the author seems pretty convinced."

Certainly a mystery that begs to be solved!
