A very successful first Romney observing session of the new season last night. We weren't sure that we would go ahead, as there was significant cloud cover at 6pm in Romney when we made the "go/no-go" decision. We decided to put the decision to this who were travelling, and most decided to make the journey regardless. It turned out to be a good move, as the skies were perfectly clear when we arrived.
The Milky Way was immediately visible as soon as I got out of the car, running right across the night sky. I hadn't intended to do much in the way of astrophotography, but the sight was too enticing, so I decided to take a few images.
All images below are using a Canon 60Da with a 17mm lens. I thought I'd try to emphasise the colour of objects in the sky during my processing... see what you think...

Once again, many thanks to Martin and Jane for their fantastic hospitality. Let's hope for many more nights like last night!
Absolutely fantastic.
As it was raining a lot, I bet that played a part in "cleaning" the air! great photos, Mike! Colours on those star trails are dazzling...and I am only looking at them on my smartphone, need to see them better when I get home on my computer.
How did you get your foreground to illuminate? Did you light paint it a bit or was it from Martin's house?
Thanks Andy and Tej.

The road by Martin's house always has the occasional car going by... so I knew the foreground would be illuminated if I lined the camera up properly. All planned!
