Here's a sneak preview of the September "Sky this Month" presentation, thatΒ I'll be giving at the first lecture of the new season on Monday 15 September.

Thanks to Sumitra and Martin for providing images for me to use.

This month, I'll be giving a review of the Perseids (Sumitra's picture in the Washington Post will be mentioned!) and looking forward to the Orionids in October. A brief discussion on comets is next... thanks to Martin for the photo of Comet Jacques.

We will then move on to talk about the Moon, and the whole "supermoon" nonsense, including some shameless publicity about my supermoon picture on the BBC.

A brief discussion about the planets follows, before moving on to the Milky Way (another picture from Sumitra) and a chat about "dark nebulae", specifically the dark nebula known as "Barnard's E".

Finally, we finish on an old favourite for this time of year - M31 Andromeda Galaxy.

The full presentation is shown below:

Thanks Brian & Sumitra.

What is the music?

Good question... I don't actually remember! It's a royalty-free piece of background music, which I downloaded ages ago.

Am I going to have to do a "I'd like to thank the Academy..." speech?

You could always take the Spike Milligan approach: "I'm not going to thank anybody because I did it all by myself...!"
