Delighted to announce that we've agreed a set of 8 solar viewing sessions at the Royal Observatory Greenwich over the months of July and August. We are targeting 4 Wednesday sessions and 4 Saturday sessions, running from 11.30am to 4pm on each day. It is unlikely that we will be able to run all of these events, due to the weather, but we hope to run at least 4-6 events over the summer period.
Nick Phillips will be running the majority of these sessions, with assistance from me, but WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS TO HELP! You don't have to be a solar expert to help out... just an extra pair of hands would be very useful. Let me know if you are able to help out.
These sessions tend to be extremely busy, with 500+ members of the public, viewing the Sun through the specialist H-alpha telescopes at the museum.
The following dates have been agreed - and a 'go/no-go' decision will be made on the day of each event:
July:
Wednesday 9th 11:30am - 4:00pm
Saturday 12th 11:30am - 4:00pm
Wednesday 23rd 11:30am - 4:00pm
Saturday 26th 11:30am - 4:00pm
August:
Wednesday 13th 11:30am - 4:00pm
Saturday 16th 11:30am - 4:00pm
Wednesday 27th 11:30am - 4:00pm
Saturday 30th 11:30am - 4:00pm
Hi Mike,
Count me in I helped out a little last time and would be willing to do so again 🙂
Thank you Simon. Do you want to be considered for all sessions, or are there any you can't make?
Hi Mike
All should be good unless something turns up the one on the 9th of July I may have to leave around 15:30 though to get to the school in time for my Astronomy enrichment which starts at 16:30 but apart from that I should be good to go
Great stuff... thanks Simon, I'll be in touch once we've finalised all of the lists.
Hi Mike,
Looks like I'm currently avaliable on all the dates posted. As I am a man of leisure perhaps Wednesdays might be most suitable?
Thank you Clive... I've put your name on the volunteer list, and will be in touch soon.
