'Just go out and buy an intervalometer'.  Not so simple.  Even if you get one, make sure you can plug it in.  My Fujifilm X100S only has a mini-USB port.  You can find an intervalometer with such a plug.  But I am told by Wexphotgraphic that the camera won't 'understand' the input.  I'd have to pay £800 to get the latest X-T1 which has the intervalometer built into its softwware!!

So, no time lapse for me yet!

‘Just go out and buy an intervalometer’.

I assume you were quoting me! :p

Depressing news about the intervalometer! 🙁

Welcome to the Forums, Chris!

The one feature of the X100S that is irritating is the fact that you can't connect an intervalometer to the camera. You can, of course, use an old fashioned cable release, but that means standing by the camera with a stopwatch!!

There is a rather bizarre mechanical solution. See here. But at about $500 it's not a cheap option.

You might be better off getting a cheap DSLR just for time-lapse stuff, if you're interested in going down that route. The X100S isn't really suited to it.

Ha! Look at that! Same suggestion at the same time! 🙂

Great minds think alike as they say.

Welcome to the forum, Chris!  Perhaps take Mike's advice and get a cheap DSLR coupled with an intervalometer for £20

I see a Canon 1100D going for £160-170.  Add a intervalometer for £14.  An 18-55mm lens for about £60 or a fixed 50mm f1.8 lens for about £70.  Total £240-250 ish altogether brand new.   For second hand you should be able to find a lot cheaper

Thanks all. I'm not ready to spend £250 to do time lapse! When I next upgrade I'll make sure it has it. My guess is that it'll be increasingly built in over the next few years. Meantime, I'll enjoy Sumita's photos.

That is definitely the case. Many of the newer cameras now have built in wifi, allowing you to control time-lapse from your phone or other handheld device.

A rather lovely little gadget which I've just got is "Triggertrap", which is a relatively inexpensive way of connecting an iPhone to a camera to do all sorts of nice stuff, like time-lapse, distance lapse, star trails, bulb ramping, etc. It can even trigger the camera if your phone senses sound, vibration or motion. Very cool stuff... and only costs £23 for most cameras (though sadly not the X100S!).

Wow, that triggertrap sounds great, thanks for mentioning that, Mike.  I think I'll  get one myself.

Welcome Chris! Glad we talked you into joining!

My Canon 400D doesn't have a time lapse option and for all kinds of reasons I never got an intervalometer for it. (The main reason was I'd never heard of such a thing until very recently!) But we got round that with a rubber band, a paper clip and a small bit of cardboard folded up into a quarter-inch square knob.

The cardboard knob was clipped to the rubber band which was wound round the camera so that the knob depressed the shutter release in continuous shooting mode. Photographically the results were pretty much as you'd expect from a 'Blue Peter' approach (complete with yellow haze light pollution, plane trails and a bug crawling across the front of the lens) but the aim was to accumulate enough photos for a GCSE star trails project on calculating the sidereal day, not to compete with Sumitra!

You know, I really should think about charging commission to some of these companies 😉

Holy crap... that's a Heath Robinson approach, if ever I've heard one! Not sure the camera shake resulting from this would produce the best of images though 🙂

Thanks Mike. I don't have an iPhone either! But I do have a remote control. So I could just stand there taking photos from time to time!

By the way, Sumi, how does one stitch the photos together into a 'video'/ More expensive stuff no doubt!

Oh and Forum master, can the latest reply be shown first on screen not last? And how do I add a photo of myself to my profile? Tried everything - but clearly not the right thing. Am I missing some on screen instructions here?

I told you you wouldn't want me to join!

Nah, it can all be done free! I'll refer you to something I posted recently, it's got all the time-lapse tips!
More tips on various things can be found here.

For the photo, I must admit it took me a while to work it out as well! The Forum Master Mike won't admit to it, but I heard rumours that this functionality has been made extra complicated so that users do not have to bother with looking at other users' unattractive photos. Don't tell anyone I told you so.

More seriously - if you click on your name on the top right to get to your profile, then hover on your photo to reveal a link "complete profile" which takes you to a new page where you can upload your photo and all. I think you should be able to work it out from there?

Nope. Whether I hover over where the photo should be or over my name, nothing pops up. If I go into profile, ditto.
