Lots of stuff starting to emerge on the interweb of the Venus-Mercury conjunction.

This YouTube time lapse video, shot in Switzerland on the 12th and the 13th, is particularly lovely. In the first half, you won't be able to resist having a private bet with yourself as to which planet will set behind the mountains first!

Damn... I lost... bet the house on Venus, came up Mercury.

I love spotting Mercury in the sky and telling people what it is. 99% of the time, they have never seen Mercury before... even experienced amateur astronomers! Through a telescope though, it is underwhelming. You can just about pick up the phasing, but because it is so low down in the sky, the image wobbles about everywhere.

Mercury is meant to have a bright yellow colour, but I've only seen it looking reddish, due to light scattering.

Great time-lapse, Andy. Thanks for sharing.

I'd bet on a simultaneous setting - the equivalent of putting all my roulette chips on '0'.

Venus's setting right in the notch in the second clip is impressive!

EDIT: I just watched this again and Mercury also sets in a little notch in the hills. An amazingly perfectly aligned shot! Maybe in 2016 APOTY should have a 'Short video' category.
