It can be tricky to shoot the Milky Way in light polluted areas.
I found this article quite useful to help me achieve some good results (although do bear in mind the capabilities of your camera at high ISO and so try various combinations to then compare at home).

I stumbled upon the Lonely Spec site a couple of weeks via a YouTube video on taking photos in heavily light polluted places. Here's a link in case it's helpful (though clearly, you know this stuff already):

I'm hoping to give this a go myself soon. My DSLR is quite old though so it'll be challenging!

Missed the video within the post but just noticed that the stills are the same and article is written by the same chap - that'll be why that video sprung to mind then (they essentially say the same thing) 🙂
