Excellent talk by Mr Connor, very knowledgeable guy and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just the sort of stuff I was hoping for signing up. Particularly enjoyed the cigar joke 🙂
Excellent talk by Mr Connor
I agree... I thought that Bill was superb. A really enjoyable evening, and a good turnout of Flamsteed members (about 30 or so) gave a fitting start to the 2014/15 season for the History of Astronomy group.
Amazing to think how much of this story has Greenwich as the backdrop. We talk about Greenwich being the home of time and of astronomy, but not so much its part in the history of global communications. It's heartening to think that this is still going on today at Alcatel in Greenwich.
Thanks to Bill for a great evening. Given the volume of material that he put together, it can only be a simple step to create a PhD thesis out of that lot!
Just the sort of stuff I was hoping for signing up.
So glad that you enjoyed it. One of the things that never ceases to amaze me is the incredible knowledge of some of our members. The thing that I enjoy most about our History of Astronomy group meetings is that it gives some of our members the opportunity to share this knowledge. Long may it continue.
I trust whoever is writing the presentation report is going to include the cigar joke...!
Meeting report now online. Many thanks to Mike Dryland for writing this... sorry, he didn't include the cigar joke, Andy!
Thanks again to Bill Connor for such an entertaining talk.
