Hi, new user here - just got my first telescope.
I'm looking for a good place to view Saturn as there are too many trees and houses blocking my view from my garden! (and the parks are a bit iffy)
There are no night events planned this month... Do people tend to have ad hoc viewing sessions in Blackheath on clear nights?
Thanks
Welcome to the Flamsteed forums!
We don't tend to schedule Blackheath observing events in the period June-August, as the nights don't get dark enough. Our next scheduled event will be in September.
That said, if you want to publicise an ad-hoc session here, please feel free to do so. I'm sure that one or two members will come along, depending on availability.
Saturn is very low in the sky - no more than 16 degrees at best - so you may struggle to get a decent view even on Blackheath. By all means give it a try, but don't expect spectacular results! Seeing conditions close to the horizon will make viewing difficult.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the welcome. Looks like the prevailing wisdom is that I'm located at the wrong latitude! Saturn will be difficult for a few years coming, by which time the rings will no longer be facing us...
I'll give it a go if there's some way I can set up either on Blackheath or at Grove Park. Failing that, as I live near Stratford I'd go along to a session at Loughton.
